Materials used: Silk organza, shot silk

Processes: Hand painted silk, burnt edges, multiple layers partially attached by hand appliqué with pearl cotton thread, and large stitches.

Artist statement:
This is hand painted silk organza with multiple layers minimally hand appliqued so that the layers move freely from each other. The edges are burnt to enhance the organic quality of the design. The burnt edges curl out, and move away from the flat surface, creating a third dimension in this fiber art piece. The colors reflect the Caribbean ocean, with reefs lurking beneath the surface.

Like a painting, it is reasonably sturdy. It will last for years with a little care. Simply gently dust it once in a while, and hang it out of direct sunlight. It will add a gentle peacefulness wherever it is hung.
