Sad things, Bad things
Helping children cope
by Rosemary Claus-Gray, L.C.S.W.
This book is designed to help children cope when difficult things happen in their lives. I wrote this book based on my more than 30 years experience as a therapist
working with traumatized children. While the book does not refer to a specific trauma, it can be easily adapted while reading it with a child after a traumatic event.
It helps the child realize he or she is not the only one who has felt this way, and it makes several points the child needs to hear to begin to cope with the changes
in his life. It offers hope to the child that he will feel better one day.
I've used the critters as non-threatening images to illustrate the book. I have tested this book with therapists, who have used it with children. They have said it
has been very helpful to the child.
This book may help you and a special child move towards a healthy, normal life. I wrote this book for parents, teachers, the clergy, therapists, and
anyone who might want to help a child move on from a trauma, whether it is the death of a beloved pet, or a tragedy in the family.
