Sampler reflects the influence of several modern abstract artist styles that I have admired, and includes hand embroidery stitches as the mark making tool. Little girls used to make embroidery samplers to learn their stitches. Thus, the name reflects not only the stitching, but also a sampling of modern art. It is created on a foundation of silk organza, with layers of scrim, linen, and silk, hand stitched with pearl cotton and embroidery threads.

The piece is translucent, very lightweight, and moves with the air currents in a room. Placed out of direct sunlight, this piece will give pleasurable viewing for many years.
