"Facade XI" illustrates the struggle between dark and negative feelings with hope, confidence and faith. Hope permeates this piece, overcoming the darkness. I've used some ancient symbols in the hand stitching, recognizing that the feelings we have today are common to all of mankind throughout history.

This quilt was selected for exhibition at Convergence, an international fiber art show in Colorado, in 2004. It was selected Best of Show at The Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, MA. in 2004.

I have used loosely woven scrim, like cheesecloth, stitched to sheer silk organza, creating subtle color and value shifts as one color is placed to overlap another. By using a sheer foundation, the translucence of the entire piece creates a mesmerizing work of art. Light flows through it, and changes its appearance with changing light.

Once it is stitched to the silk organza, it is strong and will last for years with reasonable care. It would need to be gently shaken a couple of times a year, and needs to be hung out of direct sunlight.
