“Exuberance I” reflects my joy in deciding to retire, and devoting my full attention to my art. This piece uses sheer organza in bright colors, with some shot silk included. Shot silk has one color silk thread in one direction of the weave, and another color in the opposite direction. Thus, the color of the organza changes and dances as the light reflects off it. The piece is extensively hand stitched with large, bold stitches, and a variety of threads, thick, thin, and metallic. I use primitive symbols liberally in this piece, uniting this modern work with artists of all time. “Exuberance I” explores texture, shapes, line and includes some opaque fabric with the transparent organza. It is visually rich in color, texture and design, and was a joy to create.
