"Design 23"
11.25" x 14.25", framed
Completed in 2005
Price: $600
"Design 23" shows a line drawing in thread of a double spiral. I love a spiral design.
One sees a spiral in sea shells, in opening ferns, and in the Milky Way. It seems God loves a spiral design, too.
This design shows my interest in plants, opening and shedding its seeds, and the suggestion of an underground root
system that balances the plant form above.
This piece is presented with a simple, elegant metal frame, without glass, to allow the textile to breathe and to be visually
available to the viewer. It has a needle felted background, with hand embroidery as the drawing tool. The needle-felting provides
a very subtle value gradation in the background colors, much like a watercolor painting. It is stitched to hand-dyed hemp from the
Mekong Delta, and then mounted on a black velvet mat board.
The framing makes this piece very easy to hang. It will take minimal care. Dust lightly occasionally, and keep it out of direct sunlight.
It will maintain its simple beauty for years.
